William
Hu, Beijing 2004
William
Hu is one of Beijings best makers. Most of his and his
firms work centers around copies of great instruments that William
is able to have in his shop for a period of time. This lovely
amber-varnished cello is an Amati copy made in 2004 with poplar
sides and back. The cello unfortunately sustained a lower bout
rib crack in shipment to the U.S. We purchased it early this
year, fully repaired the crack, and then deducted $2000 from
the original price. It is a great player, very smooth yet robust.
Substantial depth yet wonderfully focused. Melissa and I have
always loved poplar-backed cellos for their rich sound. Email
or call for more information this cello.
