The Wurlitzer
house was the premier violin establishment in the US and one
of the finest in the world until they closed their doors in the
1970s. Legendary restorers like Simone Sacconi, Hans Weisshaar,
and Hans Nebel worked on many of the great Strads and Guarneris
during their tenure there and subsequently embarked on brilliant
individual careers. For new instruments, Rembert Wurlitzer, a
noted maker in his own right, contracted fine shops from the
place that he and his fellow experts had received their training
Mittenwald. This 1930's cello is one of those. It is
slightly smallish in size, but still a full-size cello with a
very full-size sound and easier to get around on. It is in very
good condition and an extremely fine player: responsive, woody,
a full range of great sound and an especially strong A string
with no stridency. |
