SEE A RESTORATION IN PROGRESS!

April 2008

We discovered two open top cracks and a couple open rib cracks which necessitated removing the top .

Photo above shows a special opening knife inserted between the top and ribs. It is then worked very carefully around the perimeter until the top is completely detached. (Don’t try this at home!).

The next step is to soak off splinters from the top that have stuck to the ribs and lining and meticulously glue them back in place. The entire process took about 2 ½ hours.

Photos above show the underside of the top and inside of the body. Note the cleats and patches from previous repairs.

Next time we’ll show you the process of repairing the top cracks.
