Johann Kriner (Krinner), Mittenwald 1859

Kriner was the very first head of the famous Mittenwald violin-making school (alumni of the 150 year-old school include such luminaries as Dario D’Attili, Hans Weisshaar, Simone Sacconi, Hans Nebel, & many others). His making and varnishing skills were superb and this example of his work is magnificent. Likely because of the reputation of the maker, this cello has clearly been well cared-for all of its 159 years. It’s sound is robust, smooth, and richly complex, with an amazing ease of play. Everything you could want in a cello. With papers from David Bonsey.
