About Paul
Perley Cellos

Paul Perley
In business
since 1988, Paul Perley Cellos has placed instruments in the
hands of professionals and students in most of the fifty states
and parts of Canada.
Mr. Perley
has studied instrument repair extensively under Hans Nebel and
Horst Kloss.
Paul Perley
Cellos goal has always been to provide customers with unique
instruments of high quality and professional sound.
Paul Perley
Cellos is a small, full service shop with a full inventory of
violin family instruments.
In contacting
us you are assured that you will receive prompt, personal attention
from Paul himself.
Paul Perley,
who is also an active cellist, resides with his wife and business
partner Melissa and their family on Berlin Pond in Vermont.
Bryan Byrne comes to us highly skilled and
highly recommended. Bryan has studied violin-making with Karl
Roy and Ed Campbell, and restoration with Hans Nebel and Horst
Klaus, and has had over four years of shop experience. In addition
he is also internationally respected as a maker of fine wooden
flutes.
Bryan has lived in France, taught
elementary school, was a production potter, raced bicycles, and
plays Irish flute and Irish fiddle. Melissa and I are excited
to have Bryan Byrne be part of Paul Perley Cellos. We invite
all our customers to come to the shop and meet Bryan.
Vienna
Visit
On a recent
trip to Vienna, Melissa and I took the opportunity to visit the
Machold violin shop there. The people there couldnt have
been nicer. We were taken to a lower floor and shown a truly
delectable assortment of Italian cellos including a lovely Grancino
and one of three extant Maggini cellos. The Maggini was sold
by the Macholds as part of a Maggini quartet, one violin of which
was a rare Maggini single purfling instrument.
We spent
part of an afternoon, looking at great instruments, trading shop
stories, and just generally enjoying ourselves. Below are photos
of the shop, two great cellos including the Maggini, and Melissa
and a sixth generation Machold holding two lovely Stradivaris.
