Cello Restoration, Repairs, Sales & Service

Paul Perley Cellos offers fine cellos and stringed instruments in all price ranges. We specialize in the restoration, repair, and sale of cellos, basses and violins. Paul Perley Cellos takes pride in the personal experience that we are able to provide to each customer, and aim to connect each client with an instrument that fits their needs. We consider our setup and adjustment services second to none, as professional and novice players from throughout New England come to the shop for tonal improvement.

We have instruments in all price ranges, and proudly ship to all 50 states and Canada. Looking for a special instrument and not finding it in our listings? Email us or give us a call. We usually have many more cellos and basses than our website indicates: quite a few are acquired and sold before we have time to photograph them and to add them to our website.

From now until January 1, 2018, Paul Perley Cellos offers free shipping on any cello we offer if that cello is purchased as a final sale without a trial. (You can trade it back toward any cello we own at any time, or we are glad to accept it on consignment, assuming that the cello is close to the same condition as when you purchased it).

Contact us to discuss the consignment, repair, restoration, or purchase of a cello, bass, violin, or bow!

Fine bows by W.E. Hill & Albert Nurnberger Albert Nurnberger (top) and the firm of W.E. Hill & Sons are two of most famous makers of bows in history, even though neither came from France.  Both bows are in great condition, and both are great players. The price difference is simply because of where they come from. Questions about these instruments? Contact us through this site or call 802-229-1501. Learn More...

3/4 German, Late 1800's     A rare surviving pre-1900 3/4 cello in good condition.  This is a terrific player, with large, rich sound comparable to a full size cello, easy fingering and instant response. Perfect for a serious young person, or adult for whom a 7/8 cello is still larger than desired. Questions about this instrument? Contact us through this site or call 802-229-1501. Learn More...

Martin Hornsteiner 1795 (label)   A mid 1800's cello, beautifully made, likely by a member of the Hornsteiner family.  It is in excellent condition, having been obviously well-cared-for its entire life. The cello is lovely to look at but its best feature is its sound. Dark, potent, with a beautifully complex edge that only comes from great wood that's been out there 150+ years.  This probably won't be around long. Questions about this instrument? Hungarian (possibly), Earlier 1800's   A gem.  This beautiful 150+ year-old cello sounds just like it looks like it would.  Big, very complex, woody, and focused. It has everything it needs to be a large-hall solo instrument: plus it has great response - its voice fairly leaps off the bow.  But it is also wonderfully lush which makes it suitable for smaller venues, even living rooms.  A narrow-bodied cello that is comfortable for all size players.
