J. Boulangeot, Bruxelles, 1940, No.48
Jules Camille Boulangeot (1870-1943) was born in France and learned his trade in Mirecourt under such luminaries as Justin Derazey and J.B.-Collin Mezin. This Mirecourt experience is evident in his later work in Belgium, where the Brussels influence showed itself as well. This cello, which is in beautiful condition, has a truly lovely varnish color and texture, the wood is gorgeous, and its slightly narrower dimensions are something I personally feel is perfect for a cello. The sound, easily produced, is focused and full of terrific overtones; the lower register is incredibly full and the richness continues past the end of the fingerboard on the A string. It has papers of certification and value from David Bonsey, NY. It is signed on the inside of the top by the maker.
